This Follow Friday, I have a good friend of mine, Paul Nison. I met Paul at Hippocrates Health Institute when he was a lecturer there. Funny story about how we met. I was in the institute’s book store browsing and I saw this guy reading a book that looked interesting. I asked him if I could take a look at it. I scanned it quickly and told him it was great and I wanted to buy it. He told me I couldn’t buy the book because it belong to Paul Nison. I asked him, “Who’s Paul Nison.” He was my lecturer later that day.
Then in 2008 he came to Canada to speak at a meeting I had arranged. I’ve known him to be a kind, passionate, honest person and he loves to share his knowledge of health. While he is not a medical professional, he has learned over many years from many doctors including Dr. Brian Clement, Dr. Fred Bisci, Dr Leonard Coldwell and many more. Paul is also the creator and producer of the Raw Life Health Show. He made me a video bio below to share with all of you. Paul is my follow Friday pick. Go follow.

I am showing this video today because I think it very beautifully demonstrates how people’s defenses go up and they create a mind block when exposed to something that seems against their consciousness. In the clip from Paul Nison’s Raw Life Health Show, he discusses who he uses a very small space to produce a lot of homegrown fruits. But the mind block section is when he shows his brother about his composting method. Remember they are family and have a long standing relationship.
You can see the following steps:
- Shock /Disbelief (Watch his facial expression, his eyes)
- Annoyance / Anger (His voice changes and he uses profanity)
- Mind Blocking (Resorts to name calling and uses the term brain-washing)
Have fun watching the video. Notice if you see this type of behavior in people around you or if you sometimes respond like that to new ideas.
I’m not sure Paul’s approach would win his brother over to his way of thinking because it did not try to reduce the path of resistance. Try to examine a new idea without the types of blocking mechanisms and you can examine for yourself what is good and what is not.
Paul Nison is a friend and a speaker, author, Hippocrates Health Institute lecturer, and the creator of the Raw Life Health Show on youtube. His web store, The Raw Life, has wonderful books, food items, and other resources for anyone interested in eating more raw.
Peace and be well.

Dr. Heather Manley and I met on twitter. When I saw what she was doing, I instantly knew that we had a common passion where we could connect. That passion: helping children become enlightened about their bodies and their responsibility for good health. Look for Dr. Heather in my eZine as she’ll be sharing her knowledge and insights with our subscribers.
I asked her to write the little bio below so you will see why I follow her and why you should too.
She’s @sproutqueen’s #FF pick this week. Go follow.

Life took a pretty profound twist when my second child was born. Obvious to me now, but at the time, it really rocked my world. I was in medical school and had a perfect vision of practicing medicine and taking care of the kids. Funny though, it didn’t work for me. My kids needed me and I wanted to be there for them. I had to figure out a way to make this happen but I was so busy with them, I didn’t have to time to think about it.
Then it came to me. I began to spend time in my kids’ preschool and elementary classrooms, talking about the digestive system and nutrition. The kids were so enthusiastic and excited about learning about their bodies that this led me to search for books about the human body, healthy eating, and food choices. I discovered there were very few resources that made learning about these topics fun and engaging for kids. That’s when it came to me. Hoping to fill that void in the marketplace, Human Body Detectives (HBD) was born.
I wanted to write a story about each physiological system in the body, weave in nutrition and then tie in a bit of each system into each story. Having kids understand the individual systems in the body, how they are nourished and how they are interconnected and work together, was important to me. I began with the digestive system which evolved into HBD: The Lucky Escape. Having the story on an audio cd, including pages of games, puzzles and stickers to reinforce what the kids learned while listening, produced an unique, engaging, interactive yet educational series.
I feel very fortunate that I have bridge both my passions – being a mom and a doctor. To help families be more proactive in their own health gives them confidence to live happy, healthy life. Not too mention, a healthier new generation! This makes me feel good.

A Bouctouche, N.B., woman is taking her fight with the province’s Department of Health over the lack of funding for her prescription drug costs to the New Brunswick Human Rights Commission.
Josee Owen, 36, has had rheumatoid arthritis since she was 10 and now takes the drug Enbrel.
Even though she has partial medical insurance coverage through her employer, she still pays $370 a month — about eight per cent of her income — to cover the cost of the medication.
